Personal Branding Reflection

This has been a learning curve without question. It has made me appreciate just how much work goes into branding, they way you have to think about every aspect.

It is one thing have a concept but when you speak to people, the idea you have, and what you think a name or symbol means my not be the same as someone else.

Using Photoshop was a challenge and not something that came easily but with practice and a few hissy fits it began to make sense.

I have a new respect for design  and its process.

Throughout the process i have tried to reflect on how the different stages have gone.

The final results are something that I am really proud of and something I want to build on, which is why I bought my domain name. It has become something I feel connected to in a way i never thought I would.

The name Yorkshire Rose Media I love it, the shape of the Yorkshire Rose is so recognisable in shape, the colour is bold and makes a statement but allows the rose to stand apart from the traditional.

This is something that I plan on keeping and taking forward with me.


Personal Branding Final Results

As part of the Creative Futures Module we have been tasked with designing our own personal branding.

Business Card


The front is the one on the left with a simple image of the logo.

The back contains all the contact details.

The font chosen was a simple Lucide Bright as it is clear, simple and can be easily read when enlarged and shrunk.



Social media is a major factor for companies and freelancers. It is vital that a presence is there.

The logo is used throughout social media, it is a constant. The logo and the name should always be linked.

Letter Head

Even in today’s digital world people still need to write letters, therefore branding must be carried through into this as well.

Following the simplistic theme of the other branding I didnt want anything to complicated or fussy. Simple clean lines act as a frame with text kept to a minimum and spread evenly between the top and  bottom to add balance.


Personal Branding Process: Yorkshire Rose Media

After the initial ideas for a logo for Yorkshire Rose Media using an image i had taken were not viable after a discussion with my tutor.

It was explained that a vector needed to be used. The reason being when a photo is enlarged past a certain point the quality is reduced due to the amount of pixels, with a vector this is not the case.

The easy option would to opt for a traditional Yorkshire Rose Yorkshire_rosehowever this has become so stylized over time, i wanted something that would be recognizable but personal to me and my company.

The first thing was go get a copy of the basic outline yorkshire templet 1  and this would act as a template. This big choices are around the colour and how to make it personal to me.

When making this choice there were several things to consider.

  • what colours reflect me?
  • what colours make a strong statement?
  • what combination works in black and white?
  • what colours with the writing?

The final choice was idea 1

I feel this works well as a colour combination, has a clear connection to the traditional Yorkshire Rose and reflects me.

The choice of font was challenging as I needed it to fit within the outline of the rose, and be clearly defined.

Personal Branding- Yorkshire Rose Media – Branding – The Starting Point

The challenge to create what the brand looks like has begun. This is what will cover the criteria of the assignment that has been set.

Initially I started with the idea of a photograph of roses like flowers from in my back garden, and try to work out a way of using them.

I showed one of these to my tutor. She explained that the logo needs to me made of a vector not a photo. The reason for this is a vector can be enlarged to any size and remain the same quality.


Personal Branding – Yorkshire Rose Media

Yorkshire Rose Media Lives. Once the vote on Facebook was in, it was just a case of registering. I didnt want to leave it long, just in case the name got taken.

Using the 1 & 1 website I bought the domain name and two years of hosting for a website.

The intention is to upload all my work onto a professional platform and use this to promote myself within the industry.

The next big thing is logo and brand identity. The Yorkshire Rose would be the obvious choice however, as much as i love it I want something that nods its head to tradition but is different.

Personal Branding

When we were told about the personal branding assignment I was excited as it is something i’d thought about, but not begun to think about.

The only thingI understand that this assignment is something that is for the purpose of using our skills gained within the module however, I think that with this it would be silly not to use this to maximum effect.

I had decided was I didn’t want to use my name in the branding.  Unlike in the case of men, a woman’s name has the potential to change over time. By creating a professional identity using a brand name it will not change.

I used a website called 1&1 ( ) to check the name availability of the names of I came up with.

The next step was to choose which name. It needed to be something that was relevant to me, but also something that others would relate to.

When I was at work I made a list of my favourite ten and asked them to vote.

The next step was to ask a wider group and narrow the choices.

The two I chose were Happy Bird Media and Yorkshire Rose Media and asked my friends on Facebook.

I was also challenged to think about what I want the brand to reflect about me, and what I want it to represent.

With the exception of one person the vote was overwhelming.
